Suzlon Energy Limited: The Rise, Fall, and Financial Resurrection of India's Wind King

Somewhere in the Kutch desert of Gujarat, a 145-metre steel tower carries a rotor the width of one and a half football pitches. It turns slowly — roughly eleven or twelve revolutions a minute — and that lazy rotation is deceptive. Each blade tip is moving at close to 250 kilometres an hour. The machine will run for twenty-five years, in temperatures that swing forty degrees, in sand that eats bearings, and its owner expects it to produce power on a schedule agreed with a state utility a decade before the wind actually blows.
The company that built it, installed it, secured the land under it, connected it to the grid, and now services it under a multi-year contract was, thirteen years ago, the largest convertible-bond defaulter in Indian corporate history.
That is the story. A Gujarati textile manufacturer, tired of paying ruinous prices for unreliable grid electricity, bought two wind turbines to power his own looms in 1994 — and discovered that the turbines were a better business than the fabric. He built India's dominant wind equipment maker, then spent the boom years buying a Belgian gearbox company and outbidding a French nuclear giant for a German turbine manufacturer, financing it all with short-dated foreign-currency debt. Then the global financial crisis arrived, blades cracked on American wind farms, India rewrote its subsidy regime, and Suzlon Energy Limited spent the better part of a decade in a rolling series of restructurings that consumed the founder's shareholding, most of his acquisitions, and eventually a great deal of his health.
Today, Suzlon (BSE: 532667, SUZLON.BO) presents a radically restructured financial position. In the fiscal year ended March 2026, the company reported revenue of ₹16,679 crore, up 54%, with EBITDA of ₹3,022 crore and record domestic deliveries of 2,456 MW.1 It closed the year with net cash of ₹2,384 crore rather than net debt.1 Its market capitalisation stood at roughly ₹65,000 crore — a valuation embedding significant optimism regarding execution over the next five years.2
The core thesis worth testing. Suzlon is usually described as a wind turbine manufacturer. That framing is incomplete and, for an investor, misleading. The equipment business is a cyclical, working-capital-hungry, project-execution business whose margins depend on commodity prices, contract scope, and whether a transmission substation gets energised on time. Underneath it sits something structurally better: an operations-and-maintenance annuity attached to more than 16 GW of turbines already spinning in India, earning margins roughly double the equipment business, renewing quietly year after year.3 The key question is not merely whether Suzlon can sell turbines, but whether this maintenance annuity is large enough, sticky enough, and growing fast enough to justify valuing the enterprise as a compounder rather than a capital-goods cyclical — and whether current management, which is almost entirely new, can expand into solar, storage, and project development without repeating the missteps of 2007.
The analytical roadmap. The narrative begins in a Surat textile mill in the early 1990s and moves quickly through the founding years, focusing on recent history where the core financial lessons lie. A note on analytical posture before evaluating the business: Suzlon is one of the most heavily retail-owned and emotionally traded stocks in India, causing commentary to split sharply between triumphalism and dismissal. Neither serves as rigorous analysis. The company has executed a genuinely difficult turnaround while retaining unresolved operational and governance questions — two realities that coexist without cancelling each other out.
Everything else is commentary. The analysis begins with a textile manufacturer looking to lower his electricity bill.
II. The Textile Pivot & Founding Vision: 1995–2004 (00:15 – 00:30)
Surat in the early 1990s was India's polyester capital: thousands of small and mid-sized units weaving synthetic fabric, running looms around the clock, and fighting a constant war with the Gujarat State Electricity Board. Power cuts were routine, commercial tariffs were punitive, and electricity was the second-largest cost after yarn — as well as the least controllable.
Tulsi Tanti ran one of those weaving units with his brothers. A mechanical engineer and commerce graduate, he analyzed the arithmetic of captive power generation in 1994 and bought two 270 kW wind turbines from Vestas to feed his mill. The turbines worked, the economics stacked up, and Tanti recognized that other regional manufacturers faced the exact same power constraint.4
The shift was complete. Rather than running a textile business with a wind sideline, Tanti sold out of fabric and incorporated Suzlon Energy in 1995 to manufacture turbines.5 The bet was highly contrarian. In 1995, India had virtually no domestic supply chain, negligible grid capacity in high-wind corridors, and a policy framework that was generous on paper but chaotic in practice. Tanti wagered that power deficits would continue to constrain Indian economic growth, forcing private capital to finance its own generation capacity.
The insight that actually built the company. European wind turbine manufacturers sold hardware. A utility in Denmark or Germany bought a turbine and handled its own land acquisition, permitting, grid interconnection, and civil works. In 1990s India, that institutional infrastructure did not exist. A Surat diamond merchant or Coimbatore textile producer buying a turbine for tax depreciation lacked the capacity to secure twenty hectares of scrubland in Tamil Nadu, negotiate with local panchayats, run wind-resource surveys, or secure grid evacuation approvals.
Suzlon solved this by offering a turnkey model termed "concept to commissioning." The company acquired and aggregated land, conducted micro-siting analysis, built roads and foundations, erected turbines, secured grid connections, and retained the ongoing operation and maintenance (O&M) contracts. Customers simply provided the capital and claimed the tax write-offs.
That structure created two long-term strategic advantages. First, it converted Suzlon from a pure equipment vendor into an infrastructure developer, turning land banks, grid queue priority, and local permitting relationships into defensible assets. Second, retaining the O&M portfolio ensured that real-world operational data — gearbox wear patterns, blade erosion rates, and site capacity factors — flowed directly back to Suzlon, creating a performance dataset competitors could not easily replicate.
Borrowed technology, localised hard. Early turbine designs were licensed from German engineering firms and adapted for Indian operating conditions: lower average wind speeds than Northern Europe, higher ambient temperatures, ambient dust, turbulent terrain, and unstable power grids. Following a standard industrialization path — licensing initial designs, localizing manufacturing, building internal engineering capability, and shifting to in-house design — Suzlon later established research facilities in Germany, the Netherlands, and Denmark while keeping its production base in India.
Engineering for low-wind-speed sites formed the core technical strategy: taller towers, longer blades, and modest generator capacity relative to rotor swept area. This configuration traded peak capacity for a higher total capacity factor across marginal wind regimes — a design logic that still informs the company's modern S144 turbine platform.
Building the physical base. By the early 2000s, Suzlon established an integrated manufacturing footprint covering nacelle assembly, blade moulding, tower fabrication, and control panel production across Gujarat, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Daman. In an immature domestic supply chain, vertical integration was a operational requirement rather than merely a choice; precision 40-metre blades had to be manufactured in-house to maintain quality.
By 2004, Suzlon was the leading wind turbine supplier in India. Growth was heavily supported by accelerated depreciation tax rules, which allowed corporate buyers to write off the majority of a wind asset's capital cost against taxable profits in the early years. Consequently, purchasing decisions were often driven by immediate tax mitigation rather than long-term energy yields.
That customer structure contained underlying vulnerability. Corporate buyers seeking tax shields lacked operational expertise and long-term commitment to power generation, leaving order volumes exposed whenever regulatory tax incentives shifted. But in 2004, backed by market dominance, integrated manufacturing, and a proven track record during power shortages, Suzlon looked outward to global expansion — with capital markets ready to fund the push.
III. The Global Ambition & The REpower M&A Trap: 2005–2008 (00:30 – 00:55)
In October 2005, Suzlon listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. The initial public offering was heavily oversubscribed, and within two years founder Tulsi Tanti ranked among India's wealthiest individuals. The listing provided Suzlon with valuable public equity currency and global visibility, but both also invited high expectations and rapid expansion.
The market timing appeared ideal. Global wind installations were compounding at double-digit annual rates, crude oil was approaching $140 a barrel, European carbon policies were tightening, and institutional investors aggressively sought exposure to the clean energy transition. With a dominant domestic market share, a vertically integrated cost base, and a compelling growth narrative, Suzlon briefly became one of the most valuable listed companies in India.
What followed was one of the most aggressive outbound acquisition sprees by an Indian manufacturer. The underlying logic was defensible on paper: it coincided with an era when corporate India was acquiring major global industrial assets, such as Tata Steel purchasing Corus, Tata Motors acquiring Jaguar Land Rover, and Hindalco buying Novelis. Suzlon was not unique in its ambition, but rather in how it structured and financed its purchases.
The supply chain problem. Wind turbine manufacturing in the mid-2000s faced a severe operational bottleneck in gearboxes. A wind turbine gearbox steps up rotor speed from roughly twelve revolutions per minute to the approximately 1,500 rpm required by a conventional generator, while absorbing violent, wind-driven torque swings. Only a small group of global manufacturers could produce these components at scale, and their order books were full during the mid-2000s boom. Without guaranteed gearbox supplies, turbine deliveries stalled regardless of order backlog.
Suzlon addressed the bottleneck through vertical integration. In 2006, it acquired Belgian gearbox specialist Hansen Transmissions from private equity owners for approximately $565 million. In a market constrained by physical equipment rather than capital, securing captive gearbox supply was strategically sound.
The technology problem. The second strategic gap was product capability. Suzlon's turbines were engineered for Indian operating conditions — primarily sub-megawatt and low-single-megawatt machines designed for low-wind sites. European markets were shifting toward multi-megawatt platforms and offshore installations, segments where Suzlon lacked utility relationships and offshore technology.
To bridge the gap, Suzlon targeted REpower Systems AG, a German manufacturer with the multi-megawatt technology Suzlon lacked. In early 2007, Suzlon launched a public tender offer and entered a five-month bidding battle with Areva, the French state-controlled nuclear energy group. Bidding escalated in public view: Areva raised its offer to €140 per share in March 2007, and Suzlon topped the bid at €150.6 By June, Suzlon controlled the overwhelming majority of REpower's voting rights in a deal generally reported at a total value in the region of $1.6–1.8 billion.7 Forbes called it a coming-of-age moment for Indian industry.8
Why the win was worse than a loss. The structural flaw in the deal became apparent soon after closing. German corporate law treats majority ownership differently than Indian or American legal frameworks. Under codetermination rules, employees hold half of the supervisory board seats at large German companies. Without a formal domination and profit-and-loss transfer agreement — which required a 75% supermajority and the agreement of labor and minority shareholders — a parent company cannot direct a subsidiary's management, sweep its cash, or compel the transfer of intellectual property. Consequently, Suzlon spent years unable to transfer REpower's multi-megawatt technology to its Indian factories or move REpower's cash to service parent debt.
Suzlon effectively owned a German turbine manufacturer at arm's length, generating earnings it could not access while carrying the full debt burden of the acquisition. Rather than creating an integrated subsidiary, Suzlon held an expensive, ring-fenced asset financed like a leveraged buyout.
The financing structure. To fund the acquisition spree, Suzlon relied heavily on foreign currency convertible bonds (FCCBs) — dollar-denominated debt instruments that convert into equity if the stock price reaches a specified strike price, but must be redeemed in cash if it does not. FCCBs were widely favored by Indian corporations in 2007 because they offered low coupon rates on the assumption that rising share prices would convert the obligations into equity.
This structure created a compound financial vulnerability: a simultaneous bet on the Indian equity market, the rupee, and global wind demand. The company also accumulated heavy dollar-denominated syndicated bank debt. When Suzlon's stock price subsequently fell below the conversion threshold, the FCCBs ceased to act as quasi-equity and reverted to hard foreign-currency debt with fixed maturity dates and unhedged currency mismatches.
The financing model mismatched the underlying asset cash flows. Short-dated dollar liabilities were used to fund a German subsidiary generating euros that could not be repatriated, while debt service ultimately depended on Indian rupee cash flows. The entire balance sheet relied on the assumption that favorable equity valuations would persist long enough to allow refinancing.
By mid-2008, Suzlon possessed a global manufacturing footprint, a Belgian gearbox supplier, and a German turbine maker it could not operationally integrate. Its capital structure remained acutely vulnerable to a liquidity shock — just as the global financial crisis began.
IV. The Debt Avalanche, Quality Crises, & The Lost Decade: 2009–2020 (00:55 – 01:20)
The first crack was literal.
In 2008, at wind farms in the United States, blades on Suzlon's S88 turbines began to split. The structural failures hit projects owned by a major American utility and forced Suzlon into a large-scale retrofit and replacement program across its U.S. fleet, incurring hundreds of crores of rupees in direct costs and far higher indirect costs. In the wind energy sector, a blade failure is not a routine warranty claim; it is an existential brand event. Turbines are 25-year infrastructure assets evaluated by project financiers who model technical availability at 97%. A manufacturer with a structural defect in its flagship blade loses credibility on subsequent procurement tenders.
Suzlon's North American expansion effectively ended there. Customers canceled orders, and reputational damage spread to European buyers, lenders, and credit rating agencies just as global capital markets froze.
Understanding why blade failures are so damaging is essential, as the mechanism recurs across the industry—Siemens Gamesa's onshore quality problems a decade later followed a similar pattern. A wind turbine blade is a hollow composite structure, tens of meters long, bonded together from molded shells with internal spars carrying dynamic loads. It flexes continuously through every rotation, facing wind gusts and extreme temperature swings for a quarter-century. Manufacturing flaws in the bond line or laminate rarely surface during factory testing; they emerge simultaneously across an entire production batch after two or three years of field operation. Consequently, a blade issue is never limited to a single turbine—it represents a fleet-wide liability with an uncertain ceiling, which lenders price accordingly.
The macro turn. Then the global financial crisis struck, destroying the refinancing assumptions behind Suzlon's foreign currency convertible bonds. The company entered protracted negotiations with bondholders. In October 2012, Suzlon defaulted on $209 million of convertible bonds after failing to secure a maturity extension—marking the largest convertible bond default by an Indian enterprise at the time.9 Subsequent bond defaults followed, extending through July 2019 when the company defaulted on $172 million of maturing notes.
The forced sales. Facing balance sheet distress, Suzlon began unwinding its international acquisitions. It progressively sold down its position in Hansen Transmissions, completing the sale of its remaining 26.06% stake to ZF Friedrichshafen in October 2011 for approximately ₹890 crore.[^10] Founder Tulsi Tanti characterized the divestment as a deliberate step toward deleveraging.
A larger divestment occurred in January 2015, when Suzlon signed a binding agreement to sell REpower—renamed Senvion—to private equity firm Centerbridge Partners for €1 billion in cash plus an earn-out of up to €50 million.10 The transaction closed in April 2015. Compared with the original 2007 acquisition that valued REpower at roughly €1.2 billion in equity—alongside eight years of financing costs and minimal technology transfer—the outcome reflected severe value destruction. Suzlon had acquired the company at peak-cycle valuations using foreign-currency debt, faced legal barriers to operational integration, and was forced to sell at a market trough.
The domestic ground shifting. Compounding its balance sheet distress, India overhauled its domestic wind market structure. For two decades, industry demand was supported by accelerated depreciation tax benefits and fixed state feed-in tariffs—a framework aligned with Suzlon's turnkey model and tax-motivated corporate client base. Beginning in 2017, India transitioned to competitive reverse auctions, where project developers competed for power purchase agreements based on the lowest electricity tariff. Consequently, annual domestic wind installations dropped precipitously from a peak of approximately 5.5 GW in FY2017 to low levels for several years.11
The regulatory shift destabilized the broader industry and hit Suzlon particularly hard. Reverse auctions favored large, well-capitalized independent power producers who negotiated aggressively on equipment pricing. The auction model penalized turnkey vendors that carried land acquisition, execution, and grid-connection risks on narrow margins. Furthermore, bidding required bank performance guarantees, which a financially distressed company could not secure. Suzlon lost both market demand and the financial capacity to participate in tenders.
This policy transition highlights a key risk for businesses dependent on state incentives. For twenty years, Suzlon's customer base was largely driven by tax policy. When tax rules shifted, the customer demographic changed fundamentally. Corporate buyers seeking tax offsets and turnkey convenience gave way to institutional power producers focused strictly on generation costs per kilowatt-hour. Reorienting an organization to serve institutional developers while managing a debt crisis proved difficult, and most of Suzlon's domestic peers from the 2000s failed to survive as independent equipment makers.
The restructuring treadmill. Suzlon then entered nearly a decade of debt restructurings, including corporate debt restructuring in 2012 and subsequent debt resolution frameworks, culminating in a comprehensive restructuring under the Reserve Bank of India's June 2019 prudential guidelines. By early 2020, total debt stood at ₹14,262 crore, including ₹1,376 crore in convertible bonds.12 In March 2020, a State Bank of India-led lender consortium approved a debt resolution plan with 100% creditor consent by value and count, restructuring approximately ₹12,900 crore of credit exposure through sustainable debt, optionally convertible debentures, and equity issuance.13
This debt resolution reshaped Suzlon's ownership structure. Rather than recovering principal through cash repayment, lenders converted debt into equity, substantially diluting the founding family's ownership. The promoter stake fell toward single digits as creditor banks acquired equity stakes in exchange for debt relief.
By 2020, Suzlon had survived, though with a substantially reduced operational footprint. It had relinquished its international technology assets, gearbox manufacturing, North American market presence, and majority founder ownership. What remained was its installed turbine base in India, long-term operations and maintenance contracts, land banks, grid interconnection rights, and a workforce skilled in local project execution. The company's long-term viability depended on whether management could repair the balance sheet before the next wind installation cycle began.
V. The Turnaround: Debt Restructuring, Re-Equity, & Capital Discipline: 2020–2023 (01:20 – 01:45)
On October 1, 2022, Tulsi Tanti was traveling home to Pune after a day of meetings in Ahmedabad regarding the rights issue meant to recapitalize the company he had founded 27 years earlier. He suffered a fatal cardiac arrest at age 64.14
The rights issue opened just ten days later.
His elder brother Vinod Tanti — a founding participant in the business and a three-decade operational veteran — assumed leadership as Chairman and Managing Director.15 Girish Tanti, another co-founder, became Vice Chairman. The executive layer was reorganized around J.P. Chalasani, a power-sector executive with deep thermal and infrastructure experience, as Group CEO, alongside Himanshu Mody, a veteran conglomerate finance executive who had joined as Group CFO in August 2021.
Over the following 24 months, management executed a comprehensive balance-sheet repair. The sequencing proved critical, as three distinct transactions built sequentially on one another:
Step one: convert the lenders. The March 2020 debt resolution had already converted substantial bank debt into equity and optionally convertible debentures. By March 2022, lenders agreed to expand their combined equity stake toward roughly 35%. This debt-for-equity swap transferred core economic ownership to creditor banks, shifting their incentives from maximizing immediate loan recovery to supporting long-term operational recovery.
Step two: the rights issue. In October 2022, Suzlon raised ₹1,200 crore through a rights issue offered at five new shares for every 21 held. Discount-priced at ₹5 per share against borrowings of roughly ₹3,272 crore, proceeds were earmarked directly for debt reduction.16 The issue was oversubscribed, receiving roughly 1.8 times valid applications.17 The low issue price reflected equity market realities and the significant dilution existing shareholders accepted to maintain solvency.
Step three: the institutional placement. The recapitalization culminated in August 2023, when Suzlon raised ₹2,000 crore through a qualified institutional placement, directing approximately ₹1,500 crore to debt repayment. Consequently, a net debt position of roughly ₹1,180 crore in March 2023 transformed into net cash of about ₹600 crore by September 2023.18 For the first time since its international expansion spree, Suzlon held more cash than debt.
Why financing costs dictate operational access. In a capital-intensive equipment business, debt service determines commercial viability. Throughout the restructuring decade, heavy interest expense absorbed most of Suzlon's operating profit, diverting margin gains to creditors rather than building equity value. Deleveraging stopped this earnings drain and restored access to bank credit facilities.
Crucially, restoring bank access enabled the issuance of non-fund-based credit limits. Commercial wind turbine contracts require performance bank guarantees—financial assurances backed by commercial banks to compensate project owners if suppliers fail to deliver. A distressed manufacturer cannot obtain these instruments. Achieving a net cash position allowed Suzlon to secure performance guarantees and re-enter competitive utility tenders.
Operational acceleration following recapitalization. Operational growth lagged behind balance-sheet repair before expanding rapidly. In fiscal year 2025, revenue increased 67% to ₹10,851 crore, generating ₹1,857 crore in EBITDA on deliveries of 1,550 megawatts.19 In fiscal year 2026, revenue rose an additional 54% to ₹16,679 crore, EBITDA grew 63% to ₹3,022 crore, and deliveries reached 2,456 megawatts.1 This rapid growth reflected a cyclical volume recovery from a depressed baseline, coinciding with broader expansion in India's wind sector, where total national installations grew from 4.2 gigawatts in FY25 to a record 6.05 gigawatts in FY26.20
Accounting quality and deferred tax impacts. A key detail in Suzlon's reported earnings is that net profit after tax exceeded profit before tax in both FY25 and FY26. The company posted ₹2,072 crore in net profit against ₹1,447 crore in pre-tax profit for FY25, and ₹3,163 crore in net profit against ₹2,422 crore in pre-tax profit for FY26.1 This gap resulted from recognizing non-cash deferred tax assets accumulated during prior loss-making years. While compliant with accounting standards, these tax credits elevated headline net income above sustainable cash earnings. In the June 2026 quarter, tax expenses resumed, confirming management's note on the Q1 FY27 earnings call where CFO Rahul Jain described the charges as non-cash rundowns of previously recognized tax assets.21
Evaluating market perceptions versus operational reality.
Market misconception: Suzlon is debt-free. Reality: Suzlon holds a net cash balance, which differs structurally from carrying zero debt. The company actively utilizes working capital facilities to fund hardware procurement and long project execution cycles. In the June 2026 quarter, interest expenses rose approximately 30% year-over-year due to increased working capital drawdown, even as net cash stood at ₹2,322 crore.21
Market misconception: The recovery was driven purely by operational performance. Reality: The turnaround resulted primarily from financial debt relief coinciding with a sharp market recovery. Lenders absorbed losses through debt-for-equity conversions, legacy equity suffered severe dilution, and macro wind demand expanded, evidenced by national installation growth of about 46% in FY26.20
Market misconception: Legacy equity holders were preserved. Reality: Pre-2019 shareholders experienced nearly complete economic dilution. The recapitalization reallocated ownership from founding promoters and early investors to banking creditors and institutional shareholders. Current equity valuation reflects a restructured enterprise funded by prior capital impairment.
A clean balance sheet was the entry ticket. What Suzlon does with it is a different question, and it starts with understanding what the company actually sells.
VI. Modern Anatomy: Segment Breakdown, Economics, & The OMS Annuity (01:45 – 02:10)
Picture two Suzlon employees. The first is a project manager in Rajasthan coordinating 200 workers, a fleet of hydraulic cranes, a convoy of 70-metre blade trailers navigating village roads, and a race against a monsoon that will shut the site for weeks. The second is a technician in a Tamil Nadu control room watching SCADA telemetry from several thousand turbines, dispatching a two-person team when a pitch-drive alarm suggests a bearing is degrading.
Both work for Suzlon, but they operate in vastly different economic realities.
Segment one: wind turbine generators and project execution. This is the company's visible face—accounting for roughly three-quarters of revenue and generating most headlines. In fiscal year 2026, the wind turbine generator (WTG) segment grew 65% to about ₹14,040 crore. It functions essentially as a project execution business wrapped in a manufacturing label, and its underlying economics reflect that reality.
The flagship offering is the S144 platform, featuring a machine in the 3.0 to 3.15 MW class with a 144-metre rotor mounted on towers reaching up to 160 metres. The design logic is straightforward. Energy capture scales with the swept area of the rotor and the cube of wind speed, which increases at higher elevations. Because Indian wind sites feature lower average speeds and greater turbulence than European offshore corridors, the optimal engineering solution is a larger rotor on a taller tower paired with a modestly rated generator, allowing the unit to spend more hours near full output. The S144 has emerged as the dominant Indian turbine design, accumulating roughly 9 GW in order intake.1 Annual manufacturing capacity stands at 4.5 GW, backed by a rotor blade facility in Jaisalmer that doubled its capacity from 630 MW to 1,260 MW.22
The structural challenge lies in profitability. The segment achieved a contribution margin of around 24.5% in FY26, but that figure is before accounting for fixed manufacturing overhead, project management teams, and site erection infrastructure. Raw material costs drive the bill of materials: steel for towers and nacelles, copper for generators and cabling, and epoxy resin alongside glass or carbon fiber for blades. Building a durable, high-return industrial franchise requires ongoing execution. It demands converting order backlogs into commissioned megawatts despite power grid bottlenecks, protecting operating margins while expanding lower-margin project scope, demonstrating that third-party fleet servicing matches the profitability of captive O&M contracts, and scaling solar, storage, and export initiatives without repeating historic capital allocation missteps. Furthermore, this phase must be navigated under a leadership team whose CEO and CFO have served for less than a year, alongside an ongoing regulatory matter involving senior leadership regarding past restructuring disclosures.
The macro tailwinds across India's energy sector are clear. What Suzlon builds with them will determine the ultimate value of its resurrection.
